In a world that is driven by power, growth, and success there is seldom a moment when we aren't running to get to the next location, the next level on our personal ladder. We are perpetually filled with images from media, entertainment or the newest technology. We live in a super-sized, 24-hour sensory overload. I often hear friends say that they cannot wait until (fill in the blank) when they can escape the chaos. But the chaos is pervasive, it is in our minds, even if we can eliminate the chaotic environment the mind will not know what to do when the distractions are removed. Essentially, we have been running away from ourselves, filling every possible minute with another activity to keep busy.
Isn't it interesting what happens when all life's noise is removed and you are left with your thoughts? Do you feel uncomfortable, like something is missing? What is your relationship with yourself like? People spend all their time fostering relationships with friends, family, loved ones. While these relationships are wonderful and important, it is nearly impossible to truly enjoy the deepest root of these special connections unless you can understand yourself.
Self-awareness is a constant challenge because there is no one moment when you can say Ah-ha! and be finished. I hope that these months where I can really focus my energy inward, on personal understanding, that I can develop a lifestyle that allows for more self-discovery. Already I am uncovering more depth to a love that I thought could grow no further.
