Sunlight and espresso

I love the coffee shop culture that permeates our unique country. No matter where you are from coast to coast there is bound to be a locally-owned coffee house nearby. Somehow, the atmosphere and warm personalities of those found in the organically grown, locally-roasted coffee shop feel intensely familiar no matter how diverse and different the population of the town is. Remarkably, the CH culture even survives in this wildly conservative, bible thumping town. All the open-minded people gravitate to this small shop, it is a breeding ground for deep conversations and new friendships.

A fascinating thing happens when you sit in a coffee house for the greater portion of the day. The employees start to feel comfortable with you after the 4th cup of coffee, so comfortable that they can just sit down at your table and chat. I moved here two weeks ago but they make me feel like a native. "Aren't you the new med student at the hospital?" "I think I saw you running last Sunday." "Did I meet you in the Food Co-op last week?"

Anything is fair game when you are the new bird in town.
