I overestimated the power of my little Corolla today. She is amazing, I'll admit it. Just over a week ago I took a turn too fast, fish-tailed a little, and then swung into a full 720 degree turn. I had enough time to beg God to keep me on the road, and not plummeting down the bluff. The prayer worked, and the Corolla pulled through. Those 500 dollar snow tires that nauseated me to buy, are coming in handy now.
But today she failed me. Driving up the snowy hill to the PA's house that my friend and I are house-sitting I noticed that the plow had completely filled the entrance to the driveway with crunchy snow. It didn't appear that deep... I mean, come on, the Corolla could take on that little mound of snow. Right?
Wrong.
I floored it, and flew right onto the top of that mound, which it turns out was a great white abyss. I guess next to the 6 foot drifts it looked small in comparison. It was deep enough that my door couldn't open once I wedged her little white body into the snow.
To add injury to insult there was a big blue pick up truck with a farmer from down the road that right behind me when I attempted this ridiculous snow-plow. Laughing, he rolled down his window and said "Looks like yer stuck". "Yep, sure does, don't worry though we will get her out." I replied. I should have recruited his help, but my pride and the Corolla's pride were at stake. We eventually shoveled her out as the sun was setting and the cold gusty winds picked up, but it wasn't easy.
Next time I see a bank of snow to plow through I will remember the Corolla teetering like a beached whale.
