Typical encounter.
Amy: " Good morning Mr. so- and so. My name is Amy and I am a Cardiology PA. Nice to meet you. I understand you have been having some chest pain? Tell me about it; when did it start, how long did it last..."
Patient: "Oh! Let me tell you! Tues night while I was mowing the lawn.... (on and on)."
10 min later- Amy "I am going to run this information and your testing my our staff cardiologist. I will be back in a flash."
5 min pass...
Amy + Doctor return.
Doctor stands (not sits) leaning awkwardly over patient as if to look at the top of their head. Doctor searches patient shirt pocket for cigarettes. "Smoking, are we???" Awkward silence. Still standing a little too close, Dr. lifts patients shirt up to neck, pats belly "a little excess weight, eh? or are you just bloated" does not wait for response, listens to heart.
Nods approval in my direction.
Leaves room with out a goodbye.
Just another day.
