Essentially I am living a dream right now. I am living in a beautiful new city, with a handsome brilliant new husband, soaking in all the sights and sounds, exploring until our hearts are full and legs are tired. We moved into the most vibrant community full of diversity and life. There is so much culture here- so much to see and do! There is a great art community, a local graffiti artist coop, 3 bicycle stores on our block, tons of cafes and coffee shops with local roasts and people. Everywhere you turn there is a new place to explore. We just found a non-profit yoga studio with real traditional astanga yoga! There is a little gelato store under our apartment building with the best salted caramel gelato I have ever had. We found a local food coop, and cooked amazing meals in our new kitchen filled with our new dishes and cookware.
I am amazed at MN generosity as well. There was one unfortunate accident that happened last week. My bicycle was stolen from its bike rack in front of our apartment. I locked it overnight, and in the morning it was gone. They had cut the cable combination lock, pretty easy. I was sad, and my trust was gone, I even began to feel a little unsafe in our neighborhood questioning that very culture and diversity I loved from the first day. I filed a police report, and the next day got a call form Channel 5 News. They wanted to do a story on the 64 bike thefts that happened in the last month, mine being one of them. It was going to help people protect their bikes better, and I agreed. Steve came over, did a quick interview and was on his way. The story was short, and to the point. The very next day I got a call from Penn Cycle reporting that an anonymous donor was going to give me a bike if I was agreeable. They did not want anything in return, just saw the story on the news and wanted to give a bike they did not have a use for. A NEW BIKE! WOW! I am totally shocked at the immense generosity, and the kindness! There are good people out there! I went to go pick up the Giant Suede bicycle with Lynn later that evening, and was handed a 45-dollar U lock as well. Incredible!! The kindness was growing. My faith in people and MN had been restored, and I felt home again.
