I am sitting in the big beautiful Minneapolis public library, working... I realized pretty fast that I need to leave our cute little apartment if I want to get anything done. Yesterday for instance I did not leave.... mistake #1. At first I had to stay because our pesky little fireplace was on the fritz, and lynn accidentally turned on the "heat" switch and it wouldnt turn off. So, in fear of our place roasting, and the kitties becoming little scorched tuffs of fur I decided to stay and try to remedy the problem. I contacted our apartment support staff 3, maybe 4 times in 4 hours.... but I guess it just wasnt high on their priority list. So I stayed in the apt and waited (and waited mistake #2, prob shouldve left at that point).... then walked ot the grocery store and made cupcakes (and ate half the batter mistake #3).... then listened to CME lectures (in bed, and then fell asleep mistake #4)... then leisurely showered.... and finally around 3 I had to leave the apt to go to the "Parents and Partners" lecture at the law school. So I FINALLY got dressed, brushed my hair and hopped on my bike, to bike in the rain 4.6 miles to the school....
The lecture was only so/so. Maybe I am in denial, but I still want to believe that Lynn is different, and the first year of our marriage will not be spent with me, alone at home, staring at cold dinner on the table. I mean, come on people! The lectures try to prepare you for the - dundun Dunnnnn (scary music)- FIRST YEAR OF LAW SCHOOL. There is a whole lot of "don't expect to do anything for Thanksgiving", "give up your hopes of seeing them home for dinner, if they sleep in the school it is ok, you may need to pull extra weight around the house by cooking and cleaning more... make sure you always schedule things one month in advance...." "Law school completely changes the way people think... so be prepared for some arguments... they will never be the same, we are forming your STUDENT into A PERSON OF THE LAW with A CRITICAL MIND... (this was stated by an old hairy professor, wearing a faded suit, small glasses, and a BOOMING voice." Seriously...
They were serious.
Yep, they were.
After the lecture I just looked at Lynn, all it took was one second, and I knew we would be just fine.
Last night we went out to Trygs for Katherine's last day of work before she leaves for Spain. Anna, Massoud, Mandy, Ryan, Lisa, Jim, Austin and Lynn were all there. Life is (still) good (at least for now).
Okay, back to work.
